When should I consider a custom piece?
Maybe you don’t want the “trendy” styles that everyone is wearing. Or maybe you know exactly what you want, and can’t find it anywhere! Is there a special memory or person who inspires you? A family heirloom that you want to revitalize? Whatever the reason, don’t settle for something that is nearlyperfect — designing a custom piece is the way to go.
How do I get started?
The first step to a custom design is a sketching your ideas. Some people know exactly what they want, so the sketch is simply getting it down on paper. Make sure to show the finer details to capture the essence of the piece.
If you don’t know exactly what you want, that’s okay too! Most design teams are happy to collaborate with you. A good starting point is your preferences: do you know what materials you like? How about colors or stones? By starting small, the idea will slowly start to come to life. Make sure to know your budget, so you can stay within it as you make design choices.
After you have settled on the shape your piece will take, your design team will create a refined sketch, either by hand or with a computer-aided design (CAD) program. They will make any needed revisions, taking into account the comfort and proportions of the piece. You will get the final drawings, to scale, along with a price estimate for your approval. If you want to make changes to the design at this point, your designer can keep adjusting the layout until you are completely satisfied.
When you approve the final design, it is time to move into production. Each custom piece is made with materials specific to it, and they may need to be specially ordered. It will take between 4-6 weeks for your custom design to be ready to ship. But don’t worry — it is time well spent. At the end of it you will finally have your own, unique custom piece!
